Honeycomb with link Widget

A fork of Zabbix 7.4's built-in Honeycomb widget that adds a configurable click-through URL, so clicking a cell can navigate to any URL you define instead of (or as a fallback to) the widget's default selection/broadcast behavior.

Installation

  1. Unzip the module contents directly into your Zabbix frontend's modules directory, so that manifest.json ends up at:

    <zabbix_frontend_root>/modules/honeycomblink/manifest.json

On a typical package install, <zabbix_frontend_root> is /usr/share/zabbix; on a source checkout it's ui/. Make sure the web server user can read the files.

  2. The module folder should contain:

    honeycomblink/
    ├── manifest.json
    ├── Widget.php
    ├── actions/WidgetView.php
    ├── includes/WidgetForm.php
    ├── views/widget.edit.php
    ├── views/widget.edit.js.php
    ├── views/widget.view.php
    └── assets/
        ├── css/honeycomblink.css
        └── js/
            ├── class.svghoneycomb.js
            └── class.widget.js

Activation

  1. Go to Administration → General → Modules.
  2. Click Scan directory. The widget should appear as Honeycomb with link.
  3. Click on it and set its status to Enabled.

The widget is now available in the widget list when adding a widget to any dashboard.

Configuration

All fields from the stock Honeycomb widget are unchanged — host groups, hosts, item patterns, tags, maintenance handling, primary/secondary labels, background color, thresholds, and color interpolation all work exactly as before.

One field is added, right below Show hosts in maintenance:

  • URL (optional) — the click-through URL template.
    • Empty (default): clicking a cell keeps the original stock behavior — the cell is selected and broadcasts its host/item to other widgets on the dashboard (e.g. to drive a linked Graph or Problems widget).
    • Filled in: clicking a cell instead navigates the browser to the resolved URL, in the same tab. The original select/broadcast behavior is skipped in this case.

Supported macros

The URL is resolved entirely in the browser at the moment of the click, using only the data already available on the client for that cell. Because of that, only the following placeholders are supported:

Macro Resolves to
{HOST.ID} ID of the cell's host
{ITEM.ID} ID of the cell's item
{ITEM.KEY} Item key
{ITEM.VALUE} The item's last value, as shown in the cell

All substituted values are URL-encoded automatically. Other standard Zabbix macros (e.g. {HOST.NAME}, {HOST.HOST}, {ITEM.NAME}) are not available, since they aren't sent to the browser by the stock Honeycomb data feed — only the four macros above are guaranteed to be present.

To make every cell open its host's own Dashboards tab on click, set the URL field to:

zabbix.php?action=host.dashboard.view&hostid={HOST.ID}

Clicking any cell will navigate straight to that host's dashboard view.

You can combine this with a relative or absolute path to any custom dashboard, monitoring tool, or internal page — as long as it accepts the host or item ID as a URL parameter.
